Last weekend, I tried a winning product line- Ready Set Cupcake! owned by Leslie Kaplan and Carolyn Shulevitz, (The Piping Gourmets). The product is pre-frozen and pre-mixed in a pastry bag. Once thawed, the only preparation required is kneading the dough inside the bag, squeeze into your cupcake liners, and place in a pre-heated oven and voila, delicious cupcakes. It was the first day of spring – March 20, 2013 – a morning filled with the quiet sounds of birds chirping and the faint scent of budding flowers offering the hope of new beginnings and renewal. Coincidentally, on that day over 150 women travelled to New York City from as far away as Florida to attend the 2nd Annual Own it Ventures Pitch Expo, where the region’s women entrepreneurs were given the chance for new beginnings by presenting their products, services or business plans to angel investors, venture capitalists, retail buyers, media and public relations specialists. There is no greater sense of excitement and opportunity for a new start than at a gathering of bright, eager and dynamic women all trying to make a difference not only for themselves, but for the greater good of the world. So was definitely the case on that day as each presenter entered the Media Room and was given a brief two minutes to tell their story, a journey that sometimes began many years before...
